How to Monitor Windows Server Health Like a Pro

Proactive monitoring is the difference between a minor scheduled maintenance and a catastrophic 3 AM outage. Here is how to keep an eye on Windows Server.

1. Performance Monitor (PerfMon)

Don't just rely on Task Manager. PerfMon allows you to track specific counters over time. Critical counters to watch include Memory: Pages/sec (indicates RAM starvation) and PhysicalDisk: Avg. Disk Queue Length (indicates disk I/O bottlenecks).

2. Event Viewer Forwarding

Checking logs manually on 10 different servers is impossible. Set up Windows Event Forwarding (WEF) to push critical Error and Warning logs from all servers to a central collector.
